Mr Mattress Limited Edition Fine Art Print

I'm proud to introduce this limited edition screen print in partnership with my friends the Wilson family who own and operate Mr Mattress, an East Vancouver institution since 1964.

The business gets their mattresses made right here in the Lower Mainland and has operated out of the same location since its inception.

Their iconic logo was designed in the 1970s when a renter of the property next to Mr Mattress couldn't make the rent. He lived in one of two houses which used to be located to the East, on the adjacent lot, which the Wilsons owned.

An unnamed graphic designer, he offered that he design them a logo in exchange for the money he owed them. Shown here along with the posters of the print is the original artwork done in ink on paper he provided, which has become an icon of East Vancouver.

The print is a combination of the logo along with one of the slogans that was hand-painted onto the front of the stairs leading up to the store in the 1980s, and their signature "no bull" and "no no flip" logos.

This edition of 50 was printed right here in Vancouver at True North Screen Printing.
