The short version: I just realized the new tariffs hitting Canada affect “Pulp and Paper” that I print my new BC Almanac series on, and it could result in a huge price increase. Subscribe now and lock in for a low $25 subscription.
The long version: It’s not often that I make videos where I explain something bad that happened and wave my hands around about it, but that’s what happened yesterday when I realized that the paper I print my new BC almanac series on is one of the products that are immediately affected.
While lots of publishers in BC get their stuff printed overseas, many of the books and magazines that are actually printed here (like mine is) are made out of USA paper, made from pulp from trees grown in Canada.
The raw wood chips (pulp) are exported from Canada (mostly from BC, actually) to paper mills in the USA, then imported back into Canada as actual paper.
I’m not gonna pretend to know all of the ins and outs of the paper industry, but the stuff my almanacs are printed on just got slapped with the new tariff, and it leaves a lot of uncertainty on my end about the future price I’ll have to pay, then pass along to people who buy it.
I support my family with my social media work, my TV show, and other revenue streams, so this hit won’t be the end of the world for me, but this book project is one I ABSOLUTELY LOVE and I hope to be doing it for a very long time.
What I love about it is that it allows you to get my stories in your hands, and read them whenever you want.
No algorithm, nothing to plug in or recharge. These books contain the best stories I’ve told, and when I’m dead and gone people might still be enjoying them.
The next issue comes out in October and I’m hoping to get 1,000 subscribers by the time it comes out, to make it viable (for now)!
Lock in now for $25 an issue, and once again THANK YOU for being interested in these stories about our wonderful province.
