I quit my job and maybe you should too?

I quit my job and maybe you should too?

Over the past two and a half years that I’ve been working full-time as an independent journalist telling you stories all about BC, I’ve been inching my way towards a goal that gets closer each day.

My first goal was to simply leave my office job that I was sick and tired of, and to try and find a spark again.

I started VancouverIsAwesome.com in 2008 and grew it to employ around 20 people by the time I left it in January of 2024, and there was a time when I really enjoyed the work.

But I wasn’t built to manage people, nor show up to an office Monday to Friday and work on budgets and employee retention plans under fluorescent lights for the rest of my life.

So I took the leap and struck out on my own, and in the time since I left I’ve somehow eked out a living doing what I truly love, and managing nobody but myself.

No safety net of a savings account. No generational wealth or inheritance. Just the belief that my life could be a lot better.

And it is. It’s absolutely frickin’ wonderful now, and I wouldn’t rather be doing anything else.

And I’ve reached a point in all of this where my second goal is getting closer.

I’m hoping to eventually provide for my family entirely off of the sales of my printed almanacs that I’m now releasing every six months.

Eventually I’ll have no brand deals, just a sustainable business that involves people being able to enjoy my stories outside the walls of social media. Printed books.

It’s a lofty goal for a guy who has made his entire career off of the internet, but I think I can do it, with your help.

We printed 5,000 of the first issue and sold out in 5 months, so I’ve written a second issue that’s releasing in October.

I’m hoping to get just 1,000 people to subscribe so that they can receive that issue, then a new one every 6 months after that. Those first 1,000 subscribers won’t make it sustainable, but that’s the first hurdle to get over.

And it only costs $25 plus $6 shipping to subscribe and be one of those first thousand.

HAVE A LOOK, and if you’re interested please help me move the needle on this progress bar that I just built for my website!

And if you can’t stand your job, maybe it’s time for you to take the leap as well? I can’t say you’ll be rolling in cash but I do know you’ll probably be much happier in your life.

And that’s really all that matters. ❤️
